Part 4: The Courtroom Clash

The Mask Dissolves
The day of the emergency custody and asset hearing arrived. The courtroom was small, smelling of old wood and floor wax. Caleb sat at the defense table, looking immaculate in a custom tailored navy suit, flanked by Arthur Pendelton and two junior associates. He didn't even look at Rebecca as she was wheeled into the room by Diane Vance. Rebecca wore a simple grey dress, her walking boots visible beneath the hem. She looked pale but entirely composed.
Judge Martha Harrison, a no-nonsense woman with thirty years on the bench, peered over her glasses at the parties.
"Let’s proceed," Judge Harrison said. "We are here to address the temporary custody of Emma Walker and the petition for emergency spousal support and medical fee allocation filed by the plaintiff, Rebecca Walker."
Pendelton stood up first, leaning confidently against his table. "Your Honor, our position remains unchanged. Mrs. Walker is physically incapacitated and psychologically fragile. My client, Mr. Walker, has provided a stable, luxurious home for their daughter. Furthermore, Walker Enterprises is facing a severe cash-flow crisis due to market downturns. Mr. Walker simply does not have the liquid assets to fund Mrs. Walker's prolonged hospital stay or her extravagant legal demands. We ask that temporary custody remain absolute with the father."
Caleb nodded solemnly, casting a glance at the judge that practically screamed 'look at the burden I am forced to carry.'
Diane Vance stood up calmly. "Your Honor, we agree that Walker Enterprises is facing a cash-flow crisis. However, we disagree entirely on the cause."
Diane walked over to the clerk and handed over a stack of neatly bound documents. "We submit into evidence Exhibit A through F: the forensic financial audit of Walker Enterprises, E.W. Holdings, and the personal accounts of Caleb Walker, compiled by a certified accountant—the plaintiff herself, Rebecca Walker."
Pendelton laughed out loud. "Your Honor, this is ridiculous. Mrs. Walker has not worked in accounting for over a decade. This is a desperate attempt to fabricate—"
"Mr. Pendelton, sit down," Judge Harrison snapped, already flipping through the pages. The courtroom grew quiet, save for the rustling of paper. As the judge read, her expression shifted from professional boredom to deep, icy anger.
"Mr. Walker," Judge Harrison said, her voice dripping with venom as she looked at Caleb. "Can you explain why a company facing a 'cash-flow crisis' transferred $4.2 million into a Cayman Islands account under your sole name exactly four days after your wife was hospitalized with two broken legs?"
Caleb’s face went instantly pale. The polished composure vanished, replaced by a sudden, frantic twitch in his jaw. He looked at Pendelton, but Pendelton was staring at the documents in shock. He hadn't been told about the Cayman account.
"Your Honor, that... that’s a business investment," Caleb stammered, his voice losing its baritone authority. "My wife has illegally hacked into my corporate servers. This evidence is inadmissible!"
"This evidence is a matter of joint marital tax compliance, which Mrs. Walker has a legal right to access as a co-signer of your tax returns," Diane Vance stated powerfully. "Furthermore, we have submitted copies of these identical ledgers to the Internal Revenue Service and the federal fraud division. They opened an official investigation at 8:00 AM this morning."
The courtroom doors opened, and two men in dark suits with federal badges entered, standing quietly at the back of the room.
Caleb looked back, saw the badges, and his world dissolved. He jumped to his feet, knocking his heavy leather chair backward with a loud crash.
"You did this!" Caleb screamed, pointing a shaking, rage-filled finger at Rebecca, completely forgetting where he was. "You useless b*tch! I gave you everything! You were nothing before me! You think you can take my money? You think you can take my daughter? I’ll kill you before you get a single cent!"
"Mr. Walker!" Judge Harrison roared, banging her gavel repeatedly. "Bailiffs, restrain the defendant immediately!"
Two courtroom guards rushed forward, grabbing Caleb’s arms just as he tried to lung toward Rebecca’s wheelchair. He fought them, cursing, his face contorted into the exact same monstrous mask he had worn in Room 412.
Rebecca didn't flinch. She sat perfectly still, watching the man who had terrified her for eleven years get pinned against the defense table, handcuffed, and dragged out of the courtroom in disgrace.

Judge Harrison took a deep breath, adjusted her glasses, and looked down at Rebecca with profound respect.
"In light of the defendant's outburst, his blatant financial fraud, and the pending federal charges," Judge Harrison announced, "this court awards immediate, sole physical and legal custody of Emma Walker to the mother, Rebecca Walker. Furthermore, all domestic assets belonging to Walker Enterprises and Caleb Walker are frozen, with an immediate allocation of $500,000 released to Mrs. Walker for her ongoing medical and living expenses. This court is adjourned."
