Chapter 4: One Signature Destroyed Their Comfortable Life

The next morning everyone gathered for breakfast.

Nobody expected Ethan to arrive with three lawyers.

Diane frowned.

"What is this?"

Ethan calmly placed several folders on the table.

"For years..."

"I paid every mortgage payment."

"Every insurance bill."

"Every car payment."

"Every phone."

"Every vacation."

He slid another document toward them.

"Those payments end today."

Vanessa laughed nervously.

"You can't be serious."

"I'm completely serious."

The attorney spoke.

"The vehicles titled under Mr. Carter will be collected this afternoon."

"The family credit cards have been canceled."

"The trust paying household expenses has been dissolved."

Madison burst into tears.

"What about my apartment?"

"You'll need a job."

Courtney stared in disbelief.

"My tuition?"

"You'll apply for scholarships."

Then Ethan looked at Diane.

"As for this house..."

She smiled confidently.

"It's in my son's name."

The lawyer quietly corrected her.

"Actually..."

"The deed belongs solely to Ethan Carter."

"You have thirty days to vacate."

Diane's face turned completely white.
