Chapter 10: The Real Inheritance

Chapter 10: The Real Inheritance

Spring returned to Connecticut.

Bridget reopened Grandmother Rose’s jewelry company under a new name: White Rose Atelier, inspired by her grandmother’s favorite flower. Gone was the suffocating atmosphere of the past. The workshop was now filled with natural light and renewed purpose. Former employees who had once lived in fear of Tyler returned, taking pride in leading the company alongside Bridget with shared passion and dedication.

One afternoon, Bridget visited Grandmother Rose’s grave. She placed a single white rose on the cool marble stone.

"I understand now," she whispered, her fingers softly tracing the engraved letters of her grandmother's name. "It was never about the money."

The wind stirred gently through the trees. Bridget smiled. The fall from that deck had shattered the toxic silence she had kept for years. Cameras had revealed the truth, justice had held the guilty accountable, and Bridget had finally found the courage to choose integrity over approval.

Yet, life does not end with a court verdict or a new business sign.

As Bridget turned to leave the cemetery, her phone vibrated in her pocket. The screen displayed an unsaved number, but the area code was instantly recognizable—it was from the state correctional facility where Tyler was serving his sentence.

She hesitated for a fraction of a second before pressing answer.

"Bridget..." The voice on the other end was raspy, broken, stripped of all the arrogance that once defined him. "It’s Mom... She’s in the hospital. She had a severe heart attack after the family holding company declared bankruptcy this morning. She... she wants to see you. One last time."

Bridget froze on the tree-lined path. A sudden gust of wind chilled the air around her.

Just then, a car pulled up by the curb. It was Arthur—the young lawyer who had stood by her side through the darkest days of the legal battle. He stepped out, his eyes filling with concern as he noticed the shift in her expression.

Her former family had finally collapsed under the weight of their own greed and deceit. Now, as they lay in ruins, Bridget faced a new crossroads: continue walking forward into her newly built freedom, or turn back to face the ashes of her past to close the door once and for all.

Bridget took a deep, steadying breath. She looked at the remaining white rose petal in her hand, then met Arthur’s gaze.

"We need to go to the central hospital," she said, her voice calm, anchored by a strength she never knew she possessed. "It’s time to close this chapter forever."
