Part 6: The Leveraged Ruin

The execution of Arthur Vance was a masterclass in corporate warfare. Over a forty-eight-hour period, Reinhardt Holdings secretly acquired 42% of the outstanding institutional debt of Aegis Defense. We didn't announce our presence until the morning of the federal bidding conference in Washington, D.C.

Arthur Vance walked into the grand ballroom of the Willard Hotel, surrounded by his executives, expecting a coronation. Instead, he found me sitting at the head of the conference table, flanked by six attorneys from the newly acquired legal firms of Virginia.

"Clara Greer," Arthur sneered, using the name he thought defined my limitations. "What is the meaning of this? This is a classified defense briefing. You have no standing here."

"Actually, Arthur, she doesn't go by Greer anymore," Marcus Thorne spoke up from behind me, tossing a thick bundle of financial transfers onto the glass table. "And as of 8:00 AM this morning, Reinhardt Global Infrastructure has called in the $400 million short-term bridge loan your company used to fund your manufacturing facilities in Norfolk. You are in technical default."

Arthur’s face drained of color. He looked from the documents to me, his eyes wide with a mixture of confusion and sudden, panicked realization. "Reinhardt? You're... you're Nicholas Reinhardt's daughter?"

"The very same," I said, leaning back, looking at him with the cold serenity of a predator that had already won. "Your company is disqualified from bidding on the federal contract due to financial instability. By noon, the Securities and Exchange Commission will launch an investigation into your offshore defense subsidiaries based on a whistle-blower report filed by your wife, Julianne."

"You b*tch," he hissed, stepping forward, his corporate composure fracturing into the raw, violent temper he usually reserved for his home.

Before he could take a second step, two of my personal security operatives—former British Special Air Service soldiers—stepped into his path, their movements silent, heavy, and absolute.

"Julianne has filed for divorce in a federal court outside of Virginia's jurisdiction," I continued, my voice remaining perfectly conversational. "She is seeking full custody of the children, the estate in McLean, and 50% of your remaining personal assets. You will sign the settlement offer my lawyers have prepared, Arthur. Because if you don't, we won't just take your company. We will release the security footage Julianne recovered from your private study to every major news network in the country."

Arthur slumped into a chair, his empire turning to ash around him in less than ten minutes. He signed the papers with a trembling hand, realizing that the system he had spent his life manipulating was completely powerless against the sheer, crushing weight of the Reinhardt name.
