Chapter 9 - Ashes of the Underground

The shattered remnants of the transmitter smoked faintly against the cold concrete. Victor Miller lay tangled in a mess of wires and rusted iron, staring up at the towering black silhouette of the Cane Corso standing sentinel over him.
Holden lowered his weapon slowly, walking forward until he stood beside Seven. The little girl looked down at the fallen man with an expression devoid of malice, carrying only the heavy, quiet closure of a chapter finally finished.
"The network is dead, Victor," Holden said, his voice cutting through the silence like cold steel. "The cages are broken. And your experiment is over."
Miller coughed, a bitter, rattling sound, blood pooling at the corner of his mouth. "You think... you won, Cross? There are others... other facilities across the country. You can't kill them all."
"I don't need to kill them all," Holden replied evenly. "I only need to clean my own city. And anything that crawls out of the dark onto my turf answers to me."
Marcus stepped forward, gesturing to two of his enforcers. "Tie him up. Bag the servers and the hard drives. I want every file on this project scrubbed from existence before sunrise."
As the enforcers moved in to secure Miller, Titan turned his massive head away from the fallen trainer and looked down at Seven. The terrifying beast let out a soft, gentle huff, nudging her small hand with his cold, wet nose.
Seven smiled—a small, genuine smile that finally chased the shadows from her face. She reached up, burying her fingers deep into the thick fur of his neck.
"Come on, Titan," she whispered softly. "Let's go home."

Holden watched them for a long moment, a rare, complex emotion stirring behind his cold, calculating exterior. In a world built on betrayal, violence, and cold-blooded survival, trust was a currency he rarely invested in. But as he turned and walked back up toward the surface, leading his men out of the damp catacombs into the pale light of the morning sun, he knew one thing for certain:
The eastern courtyard would never be just a killing ground again. It was a fortress gate guarded by the most formidable alliance the underground had ever seen.
