CHAPTER 10: SUNSHINE AFTER THE RAIN

One year later.
The spring sun in Silverwood was warm and bright, melting the last traces of winter snow from the high peaks of the mountains. The valley was alive with the vibrant green of new growth and the sweet, wild scent of blooming forest flowers.
Down on the main street of town, a beautiful new wooden storefront stood proudly, its large glass windows sparkling in the sunlight. Painted in elegant, hand-carved gold lettering across the front glass was the name: Geneva’s Sweet Haven Bakery & Cafe.
Inside, the cafe was bustling with locals. The air was filled with the rich aroma of fresh-brewed coffee, warm cinnamon, and sweet vanilla.
Behind the counter, Callie stood in a clean white apron, her blonde hair falling in soft curls around her face. She was smiling warmly as she handed a box of fresh pastries to a regular customer. Her business was no longer a struggling home operation; with the recovered funds from her grandfather's trust—returned to her after a federal court seized Joel and Dakota’s assets—she had built the bakery of her dreams.
Uncle Joel and Aunt Dakota had both been sentenced to federal prison for grand theft, forgery, and financial elder abuse. They would spend the next decade behind bars, unable to ever hurt anyone again.
"Here you go, sweetheart," a gentle voice said.
Callie turned to see Geneva walking slowly out of the back kitchen. She looked radiant. Her silver hair was neatly pinned up in a beautiful braid, and she wore a clean, soft blue dress. Thanks to proper medical care, a peaceful environment, and the love that surrounded her, her cognitive decline had stabilized. She still had her foggy days, but today, her eyes were bright and clear. She set a tray of perfectly iced sugar cookies on the counter.
"They look beautiful, Grandma," Callie said, kissing her cheek. "Just like you."
The bell above the shop door chimed happily, and Liam walked in. He had sawdust on his jeans from his workshop, but his forest-green eyes were bright as they locked onto Callie. He walked straight behind the counter, wrapping his strong arms around her waist and pulling her close for a warm, lingering kiss.
"Happy one-year anniversary of being the best bakery in Oregon," Liam whispered against her ear, sliding a small, beautifully carved wooden box onto the counter.
Callie opened the box. Resting inside was a delicate gold ring, carved with the intricate pattern of a wild mountain rose.
"Callie, you rebuilt your life from nothing, you saved your grandmother, and you showed me what true strength looks like," Liam said softly, taking her hand. "I want to build a life with you. Every single day. Will you marry me?"
Tears of pure happiness welled in Callie’s eyes. She looked at Liam, the man who had stood by her through the darkest storm of her life, and then at Geneva, who was smiling and clapping her hands happily.
May you like
"Yes, Liam," Callie laughed, sliding the ring onto her finger. "A million times, yes."
As the afternoon sun cast long, golden beams of light through the windows of the warm cafe, Callie looked around at her family, her love, and her thriving business. The nightmare was finally over. The shadows of the past had dissolved, leaving behind a bright, beautiful future filled with love, laughter, and the sweetest happiness she had ever known.
