Chapter 6 - JUSTICE AND RESTORATION

The trial of The Crown v. Harrison, Whitmore, and Whitmore became the scandal of the decade in London high society.

For three weeks, tabloids and broadsheets alike were filled with headlines detailing the shocking cruelty of the aristocratic Whitmore family. The evidence presented by Alexander’s legal team—toxicology reports, bank ledgers, hidden camera footage, and Grace’s brave testimony—was so overwhelming that the defense collapsed within days.

Dr. Julian Harrison was sentenced to eighteen years in a maximum-security prison, his medical license permanently revoked, his assets seized by the court.

Victoria Whitmore was sentenced to twelve years for fraud and child endangerment.

Beatrice Whitmore, owing to her age, was sentenced to eight years in a medium-security facility and ordered to pay full financial restitution to Iris’s trust fund.

The toxic legacy that had haunted the Whitmore family for generations was officially purged.

Three months after the sentencing, the spring sun broke through the gray London clouds, bathing the Kensington estate in brilliant golden light.

The dark, sterile house had been completely transformed. The heavy velvet drapes had been replaced with light linen curtains. The cold antique furniture had been moved aside to create open, sunlit play areas. The sounds of laughter, little feet running across hardwood floors, and music filled every room.

Iris was now walking—and running—without any assistance whatsoever. Her twin sister, Clara, had a hard time keeping up with her as they chased a golden retriever puppy around the back garden.

Alexander sat on a wooden bench in the garden, wearing a casual sweater and jeans. Beside him sat Grace.

She was no longer wearing a housekeeper’s uniform. She wore a soft lavender spring dress, her hair flowing naturally over her shoulders.

Over the past three months, Alexander had funded Grace’s return to university. She was now enrolled in the top pediatric nursing program in London, her tuition fully paid, her future secured.

"You're quiet today, Alexander," Grace said softly, turning to look at him.

Alexander looked out at his daughters playing on the grass. Clara was trying to put a small party hat on the puppy, while Iris was giggling hysterically as she rolled over the lawn.

"I was just thinking about the night I clicked on that camera feed in New York," Alexander admitted, a warm smile touching his lips. "I thought my life was completely defined by business, wealth, and cold efficiency. I thought I was managing my home."

He turned to look at Grace, his dark eyes filled with a deep, unshakeable tenderness.

"I didn't realize that my home didn't exist until you walked through the front door."

Grace felt her heart leap in her chest. "Alexander..."

Alexander reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, navy velvet box. He didn't offer a corporate contract. He didn't offer a grand aristocratic speech.

He opened the box to reveal a simple, stunning ring set with a brilliant round diamond that caught the afternoon sunlight.

"Grace Ellison," Alexander said, his voice dropping into a low, intense register. "You saved my daughter's life. You brought truth back into this house. And you showed me what love actually looks like. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, and giving my daughters the mother they deserve?"

Grace looked at the ring, then up at the man who had transformed from a cold, distant billionaire into a devoted, fiercely loving partner.

Tears of pure, unadulterated joy spilled down her cheeks.

"Yes," Grace whispered, her voice rich with emotion. "Yes, Alexander! A thousand times yes!"

Alexander smiled, sliding the ring onto her finger before pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss.

From across the lawn, Iris and Clara came running over, the golden retriever barking joyfully at their heels.

"Grace! Daddy!" Clara cheered, throwing her arms around Alexander’s leg.

Iris scrambled onto the bench between them, wrapping her tiny arms around Grace’s neck and pressing a sticky kiss onto her cheek. "Grace stay forever?"

Grace held the little girl tight against her heart, looking into Alexander’s loving eyes.

May you like

"Yes, my sweet girl," Grace promised softly. "Forever."
