Chapter 9 - A New World

"That is just for the inconvenience of today," Roman explained smoothly.

"I have already instructed my wealth management team to set up a blind trust in Maya's name. When she turns eighteen, she will have access to a twenty-million-dollar fund for her education, her future, and whatever she desires."

Sarah covered her mouth, sobbing uncontrollably, shaking her head. "Mr. Sokolov... this is... we can't..."

"You can, and you will," Roman said firmly. "Furthermore, Viktor will personally escort you out of the city tonight. You will be given new identities, a new home in a quiet, safe suburb in California, and a Sokolov security detail that will watch over you from a distance to ensure the Volkovs never find you."

Roman stood up and walked around the desk, crouching down until he was eye-level with Maya.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a heavy, solid gold coin embossed with the Sokolov crest—a double-headed eagle.

He pressed the coin into Maya’s small palm and closed her fingers around it.

"Listen to me very carefully, Maya," Roman said, his eyes locking onto hers. "You are brilliant. You see the world in a way most people are too blind to understand. Don't ever let anyone tell you to be invisible again. You hear me?"

Maya looked at the gold coin, then up at the towering mafia boss. She nodded slowly.

"If you ever need anything," Roman continued, his voice fierce with protective loyalty. "If anyone ever tries to hurt you, or your mother... you show that coin to any of my people, anywhere in the world. And an army will come for you. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Mr. Sokolov," Maya whispered.

"Good," Roman said, standing up. "Viktor, get them to the jet."
