Chapter 10: The Sovereign
Night fell over the city.
From the balcony of her penthouse estate, Mariana looked out over the sprawling metropolis. The city lights sparkled like a sea of diamonds beneath her feet.
She held a champagne glass in her hand, the icy wind rustling the silk of her evening gown.
Her phone chimed on the railing. It was a text from an unknown, encrypted number:
【Check the vault under the floorboards of the Morrison mansion. Andrew wasn't the only one hiding secrets in that house. - G】
Mariana stared at the message. Her thumb hovered over the screen.
She knew Gabriel was playing another game. She knew that entering that abandoned, ruined mansion again was stepping right back into the dark web her family had spun for generations.
The Morrisons were gone, reduced to ash. But the war for the Escalante empire had only just begun.
Mariana took a slow sip of her champagne, her gaze turning toward the dark outline of the distant hills where the Morrison mansion stood empty and cold.
