Chapter 9 - THE CLIMAX

Friday morning arrived, draped in a heavy gray fog. The Sherwood High gymnasium was deafening, packed with hundreds of students wearing blue and gold, stamping their feet on the wooden bleachers. The school band was playing the fight song, and giant banners hung from the rafters.

Principal Higgins stood at the center court microphone, his voice booming through the PA system. "And now, to honor our varsity team as they head to the finals, let's look back at the journey of our star quarterback, Marcus Vance!"

The house lights dimmed. A massive projection screen descended from the ceiling above the basketball hoops.

In the third row of the bleachers, Sam sat with his laptop hidden inside his backpack, his fingers tapping anxiously on a wireless keyboard. "I’m in the system. Standing by."

Maya stood near the entrance doors, her eyes locked on Marcus, who was sitting on the team bench with a white bandage across his jaw, basking in the applause. Chloe stood nearby, holding a professional camera, smiling confidently.

"Do it, Sam," Maya whispered into her hidden earbud.

The screen flickered. The glitzy highlight reel of Marcus making touchdowns suddenly cut to black. The loud pop music died out, replaced by a sharp, piercing static ring.

The crowd went quiet. Principal Higgins tapped the microphone, confused. "Technical difficulties, please hold."

Then, the video started.

It wasn't the thirty-second clip everyone had seen. It was the full, unedited two-minute recording. The gymnasium fell so silent you could hear the rain hitting the roof outside. The giant screen showed Marcus cornering Leo. The speakers echoed with Marcus’s cruel, privileged voice: "You’re a parasite, Leo. You don't belong in this school. Let's see how your scholarship holds up after I break your face."

The crowd gasped as Marcus swung the silver chain. They watched as Leo ducked, defended himself, and delivered the single punch out of pure self-defense.

Before the administration could react, the video cut to a document display: the technical log proving the file had been edited and uploaded from Chloe Vance’s account, using her unique software license key.

Marcus stood up from the bench, his face completely drained of color. Chloe dropped her camera, her mouth open in horror. The students turned to look at them, the whispers starting instantly, but this time, the fingers were pointing at the golden boy.
