Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

We ran toward the edge of the pier where the black SUVs were speeding away. But one vehicle remained—Victor’s customized van, its engine idling as the driver frantically tried to throw it into gear amid the gunfire.
Marcus dropped from the overhead crane structure onto the hood of the van with a violent smash, kicking through the windshield and neutralizing the driver instantly.
The van crashed into a pile of wooden pallets, coming to a dead halt.
I ran to the rear doors and yanked them open. Inside, sitting among overturned medical equipment, was Victor Vance. His hand was trembling as he tried to raise a small revolver toward me.
I stepped inside, grabbed the barrel of the gun, and twisted it out of his frail grip, tossing it onto the floorboards.
Victor slumped back against his leather seat, breathing heavily, his blue eyes filled with bitter defeat. "You think... you've won?" he wheezed. "My syndicate spans three continents. Even if I fall, my associates will hunt your children to the ends of the earth."
Sarah stepped up beside me into the van. Her face was bruised, her clothes torn, but her posture was upright, her eyes burning with unbroken strength.
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a secondary, military-grade satellite transmitter connected to the black drive I had brought.
"They won't hunt anyone, Victor," Sarah said, her voice dead steady. "Because thirty seconds ago, the moment Richard triggered the signal at the lighthouse, the entire decrypted contents of your ledger were uploaded directly to the Interpol, FBI, and Department of Justice master servers."
Victor’s face drained of all color. "You... you didn't..."
"Every shell company. Every corrupt judge. Every offshore account in Panama, Zurich, and the Caymans," Sarah continued coldly. "By tomorrow morning, your entire network will be frozen, and every associate you have will be facing federal indictments. You didn't just lose, Victor. You're erased."

Sirens began to wail in the distance—dozens of federal agency cruisers and tactical units speeding down the highway toward Pier 42. Marcus had alerted his former colleagues the moment we secured the ledger.
Victor sank into his chair, a broken old man stripped of his empire, as the red and blue lights illuminated the fog around us.
