Chapter 6 - THE ELITE’S EXILEThe central precinct's processing room smelled of old coffee, industrial bleach, and fear. For Isabella, the transition from VIP luxury to inmate processing was a brutal, instantaneous shock. Her diamond tennis bracelets, her designer handbag, and her red-soled heels were confiscated, placed into a gray plastic bin, and replaced with a standard-issue, oversized orange jumpsuit and rubber slides.

By 4:00 PM, her mugshot had been leaked to the press.
The headline on the city’s largest society blog ran alongside the photo of her smeared makeup and hollow eyes: "Boutique Heiress Booked on Felony Assault Charges in Vega Rescued Case."
Inside the general population holding cell, Isabella sat on a hard stainless-steel bench, clutching her knees to her chest. She frantically tried to use the single collect-call payphone on the wall to reach out to her inner circle—the wealthy, influential friends who had clinked champagne glasses with her just forty-eight hours prior.

"Chloe, please pick up! It's Isabella, I need you to call a bondsman—"
"The subscriber you are trying to reach has blocked this number," a mechanical operator voice broke in, followed by a harsh dial tone.
She tried her closest friend, the daughter of a city councilman. The call connected, but the voice on the other end was icy and distant.
"Isabella, do not call this number again," her friend whispered frantically. "My father's reelection campaign just received a massive compliance warning from the Vega Foundation's legal team. Anyone associated with you is being blacklisted from the charity circuit and the country club. You're radioactive. Stay away from us."
The line went completely dead.
One by one, the elite tier of society slammed their doors in her face. The very people who had watched her slap a defenseless fifteen-year-old girl in the boutique were now scrubbing her name from their guest lists, deleting her photos from their social media profiles, and pretending she had never existed.
Meanwhile, in the high-rise offices of Vega Global Enterprises, a team of six top-tier prosecutors and forensic investigators sat around a massive glass conference table. Mr. Vega stood at the head of the room, his eyes fixed on the projection screen displaying the boutique's interior security footage.
"The defense is going to argue that it was a crime of passion, an erratic outburst with no prior intent," the lead prosecutor explained, tapping a stack of legal briefs. "But we have already secured the formal, unreserved confession Isabella signed this morning. Combined with the high-definition footage showing the sheer kinetic force of the blow, their defense is completely dead in the water."
"I don't just want a conviction," Mr. Vega said, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying growl that made the seasoned attorneys adjust their collars. "I want her to face the full statutory maximum. She targeted a child who couldn't defend herself. I want the state to show her exactly what happens when the law stops protecting privilege."

"We’ve already bypassed the standard grand jury protocol, sir," the prosecutor assured him. "The District Attorney has fast-tracked the indictment. The trial date is being set for next month. There will be no delays, no continuances, and absolutely no plea bargains."
Mr. Vega turned to look out the window at the sprawling city below. Isabella Rossi had spent her entire life believing her wealth gave her the right to step on anyone she deemed beneath her. But as the sun set, leaving the towers in deep, cold shadows, she was learning the hard way that when the elite fall, they fall entirely alone.
