Chapter 7 - THE BOUTIQUE’S RECKONINGThe pristine, marble-lined halls of Maison de L'Élite were eerily quiet. The shattered glass storefront had been boarded up with raw, unpainted plywood, completely ruining the high-end aesthetic of the luxury shopping district. Inside, the soft ambient jazz still played, but the air felt heavy, stagnant, and thick with anxiety.

The boutique manager, Jean-Louis, paced frantically behind the cash wrap, his silk tie crooked, his forehead slick with sweat. Since the incident, the store had been completely empty. Not a single VIP client had crossed the threshold. The wealthy elite who once fought for exclusive viewings now treated the establishment like a plague site.
The heavy glass back door opened, and three corporate attorneys representing the boutique’s European parent company walked in, their faces grim. Behind them came Marcos, Mr. Vega's chief of security.
"Jean-Louis," one of the parent company executives said, his voice tight and hollow. "Gather the staff in the center of the showroom. Immediately."
Within minutes, the six retail associates and the security guard who had stood frozen while Ana was assaulted stood in a nervous line on the marble floor.
Marcos stepped forward, pulling a gold-embossed legal document from his leather portfolio. He didn't look at Jean-Louis; he looked at the entire room as if they were nothing more than a minor clean-up operation.
"As of 9:00 AM this morning," Marcos announced, his voice echoing sharply off the marble walls, "Vega Global Enterprises has finalized a hostile takeover, purchasing a controlling sixty percent stake in your parent corporation. Mr. Vega is now the sole proprietor of this brand."
Jean-Louis let out a sharp gasp, his hands flying to his mouth. "Mon dieu... Mr. Vega owns us? Does... does this mean we are being reassigned?"
"No," Marcos said coldly, sliding the document onto the display table. "It means you are being terminated. Effective immediately."
"You can't do that!" the boutique security guard protested, taking a step forward. "We were just following protocol! Isabella Rossi was a tier-one VIP! If we interfered with her—"
"Your protocol was to watch a defenseless fifteen-year-old girl be brutally assaulted and do absolutely nothing because you valued a luxury sales commission over human decency," Marcos interrupted, his eyes flashing with a sudden, dangerous intensity. "You chose to protect a criminal because of her bank account. Today, that bank account cannot save you."
Marcos signaled to the workers waiting outside. Two construction men walked through the boarded-up entrance carrying heavy industrial locks and chains.
"Pack your personal items in the boxes provided," Marcos commanded. "You have fifteen minutes to vacate the premises. All corporate healthcare, bonuses, and severance packages are formally revoked due to gross misconduct and negligence creating severe corporate liability."
Jean-Louis began to weep silently, stripping off his designer employee badge and dropping it onto the counter. The retail associates followed suit, their faces masks of profound regret as they realized that their silence had cost them their careers in the luxury industry permanently.
By noon, the boutique was completely empty. The expensive silk garments, the custom brass racks, and the designer handbags were left behind to gather dust.
Marcos walked out to the sidewalk, watching as the workmen wrapped thick, heavy steel chains around the front handles of the boutique doors, snapping a massive brass padlock into place. They slammed a large, white billboard directly onto the plywood facade.
