Chapter 1

An elderly billionaire married a young man, sincerely believing that true love existed between them. But on their wedding day, the groom pushed her out of a helicopter, completely unaware that something entirely unexpected would happen very soon. 😨😱

Veronika had long been accustomed to her life being the envy of those around her. At sixty-five years old, she owned a massive business empire, several companies, real estate in various countries, and a fortune measured in billions. Her name was well known to influential figures, government ministers, and owners of major corporations. But at night, when the office doors closed and the calls ceased, her luxurious mansion remained hauntingly empty.

Many years ago, Veronika had lost her husband. She never had children. Her parents had passed away long ago, and her only remaining relative was a distant nephew with whom she had virtually no contact. Money could buy everything except the one thing she lacked most: a family.

That was why, when Alex entered her life, she felt as though she were young again.

Alex was thirty-three years old—tall, confident, attentive, and always impeccably polite. He had appeared at one of her charity galas and immediately showed an interest in Veronika.

At first, she didn't take him seriously.

"Do you realize how old I am?" she asked him once.

Alex merely smiled.

"I don't care. I see the person, not the age."

Veronika remembered those words for a very long time.

After a few months, they were spending nearly all their free time together. Alex bought her flowers, planned surprises, listened intently to her stories, and was always by her side whenever she felt sad.

Others, however, saw things quite differently. Colleagues cautiously hinted that the young man was a bit too interested in her money.

Her female friends said outright that he was after her inheritance. Even her lawyer warned her once:

"Veronika, forgive my frankness, but if I were in your shoes, I would be careful."

Yet, she refused to listen to anyone. For the first time in many years, she felt truly loved.

A year later, Alex proposed. Veronika wept with happiness.

They decided to have an unusual wedding. After the ceremony, the newlyweds were to fly by private helicopter to a small island owned by Veronika, where the final marriage documents would be signed.

The wedding day was sunny and warm.

Guests congratulated the couple, photographers worked tirelessly, and Veronika looked happier than ever. When the helicopter took off, the only people inside were the pilot, the newlyweds, and the notary.

After some time, they landed on the island.

The documents were signed. The notary placed the final seal.

Veronika smiled with relief.

"Now we are a family," she said softly.

Alex smiled too. But that smile was unlike any she had seen before. There was no warmth in it.

Minutes later, they took off again. As the helicopter flew over the ocean, Alex asked the pilot to open the side door so he could take photos of the wedding.

Veronika walked up to the opening.

The wind immediately blew her veil into the air. Alex took a few steps behind her. Then, suddenly, he gave her a sharp push from behind. Veronika didn't even have time to scream. She disappeared below into the clouds. For a few seconds, Alex just stared into the void. Then he slowly took a seat.

A satisfied smile appeared on his face. The plan seemed perfect. According to the documents, upon his wife's death, he became her closest living relative and gained control of her enormous fortune.

Upon returning to the mainland, Alex immediately reported the tragedy to the police.

He claimed that Veronika had accidentally slipped near the open door of the helicopter. Search operations began right away. But the ocean was vast. One day passed. Then another. The body did not turn up.

By the third day, Alex was already discussing the inheritance with lawyers. He was certain it was all over. But on the morning of the fourth day, something happened that he never expected in the slightest. There was a knock at the door of his mansion. When he opened it, Alex froze in terror. Standing on the threshold was Veronika. Alive. Exhausted. Sunburned. But alive.

The man turned pale.

"This can't be..."

Veronika looked at him in silence.

It turned out that after the fall, the woman had incredible luck. Years ago, she had taken a specialized water survival course designed for private aviation owners. During the plunge, she managed to hit the water correctly and avoid severe injury.

Furthermore, a research vessel happened to be passing nearby; its crew spotted a person in the ocean and rescued her.

But the real blow for Alex was yet to come.

While he had been celebrating his anticipated victory, Veronika had already told everything to the police.

Investigators quickly reviewed the recordings of the pilot's communications, camera footage, and the notary's statements. The full picture became glaringly obvious. Within a few days, Alex was arrested.

During a search, authorities also found messages on his phone sent to an accomplice, detailing his prior plan to acquire his wife's fortune. The trial didn't last long.

Alex lost everything.

And a few months later, Veronika sold part of her business and founded a major charitable organization for elderly people who were left all alone.
