CHAPTER 4: THE UNMASKING AT THE GALA

The official launch party for the "Veronika Youth Foundation" was the most anticipated event of the social season. Over three hundred high-society guests, international journalists, and business tycoons filled the grand ballroom of the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat.
Julian stood on the main stage, wearing a tailored Italian tuxedo. He looked like the picture of success and nobility. When Veronika took her seat in the front row, flanked by her security detail and Alex—who stood quietly in the shadows wearing a plain staff suit—Julian began his keynote address.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian cattered, his voice full of practiced emotion. "When I first met Madam Veronika, I saw a woman of incomparable wisdom and boundless generosity. This foundation is not just about sports; it is about honoring her legacy. I have dedicated my life to ensuring that her trust in me is never broken..."
The crowd applauded warmly. Julian beamed, signaling to the media team to display the promotional video of the new sports facilities on the giant LED screen behind him.
Instead of sports facilities, the audio system blasted high-volume club music, and the massive screen illuminated with crystal-clear, 4K footage.
It was the recording from the previous night.
Julian’s face, enlarged twenty feet high, filled the screen as his voice echoed through the silent ballroom: "To the old bat! She actually thinks I care about her stupid sports charity! A few more months of pretending to adore her, and we’re set for life!"
The ballroom erupted into gasp-filled chaos. Photographers' flashes went off like a lightning storm. Julian froze on stage, his mouth hanging open, the color draining from his face until he looked like a ghost. He frantically pointed at the sound booth, screaming at the techs to shut it off, but the system was locked down.
Veronika slowly stood up from her front-row seat. She didn't look angry; her expression was one of icy, absolute authority. She walked up the steps to the stage, picked up a microphone from the podium, and looked down at Julian, who was shaking violently.
"You speak of legacy, Julian," Veronika said, her calm voice amplified across the hall. "But you forgot one fundamental rule of business: never play games with the person who owns the board."
Federal fraud investigators walked onto the stage from the side wings, displaying federal arrest warrants for wire fraud, embezzlement, and attempted financial exploitation. As the handcuffs clicked around Julian’s wrists, he fell to his knees, sobbing and begging Veronika for mercy.

"Take him away," Veronika said coldly, turning her back on him without a second glance.
In the corner of the room, Alex watched the police drag the weeping model-turned-fraudster past the crowd. A deep sense of dread settled in his chest. Veronika was no longer just a victim who had survived a fall from a helicopter. She had transformed into an unstoppable judge, executing poetic justice on anyone who mistook her age for weakness.
