CHAPTER 5: THE PSYCHOLOGIST'S APPROACH

The public ruin of Julian sent shockwaves through elite social circles, scaring off the amateur gold-diggers and opportunists. But where foolish men saw danger, a far more sophisticated predator saw an opportunity.

Enter Dr. Arthur Vance, thirty-five years old—a brilliant neuropsychiatrist, published author, and founder of an elite mental wellness clinic catering exclusively to billionaires. Unlike Alex’s handsome charm or Julian’s athletic swagger, Arthur was understated, intellectual, and intensely soft-spoken. He wore tailored tweed jackets, spoke with a soothing cadence, and projected an aura of profound empathy.

Arthur did not approach Veronika at a party or offer her business proposals. Instead, he arranged to be invited as a guest speaker at a private medical symposium Veronika attended. During his lecture on "Trauma and Resilience in High-Net-Worth Individuals," he subtly referenced the psychological courage required to survive catastrophic betrayals, looking directly at Veronika with deep, understanding eyes.

After the lecture, Veronika invited Arthur to her private estate for a consultation, claiming she was suffering from persistent nightmares since her near-fatal fall into the ocean.

Alex stood inside the security monitoring room, watching the live feed of their session in the estate's private conservatory.

"Breathe slowly, Veronika," Arthur said gently, placing a warm, reassuring hand over hers as she sat on the plush sofa. "You don't need to be the invincible CEO in this room. You have been betrayed by people who viewed you as a bank account rather than a human being. It is natural to feel terrified and alone."

Veronika leaned back, closing her eyes, appearing remarkably vulnerable. "Everyone wants something from me, Arthur. I feel like I'm living in a cage surrounded by wolves."

"I don't want your money, Veronika," Arthur murmured, his eyes locking onto hers with intense sincerity. "My clinic earns millions. What I want... is to give you back your peace of mind. You deserve someone who sees your soul, not your balance sheet."

In the monitoring room, Alex tapped his headset microphone, speaking directly to Veronika. "Be careful. I'm running his financial records through our private investigator. He isn't embezzling money like Julian. His clinic is legitimately profitable. He doesn't want a quick payout—he's playing the long game to get himself placed into your legal guardianship."

Veronika opened her eyes, looking at Arthur with a faint, weary smile. "If only I could believe you, Arthur. If only I knew you wouldn't abandon me when things become difficult."

Arthur leaned in closer, his voice filled with unquestionable conviction. "Test me, Veronika. Put me through whatever fire you need. I will prove to you that my devotion is absolute."

Veronika’s lips curved into a subtle, dangerous smile. "Be careful what you wish for, Doctor."
