Chapter 10 - The Light of Simple Things

The interior of the stone chapel was bathed in a soft, golden light, filtered through the simple stained-glass window that depicted a sower sowing his seeds.

Sienna walked down the short stone aisle, her hand resting on the arm of her mother, Elena, who had traveled from Florence to be there. Elena’s eyes were filled with tears, but they were tears of pure, proud joy as she looked at her daughter’s radiant, peaceful face.

At the altar stood Aiden, his eyes locked on Sienna, his face filled with a love so deep and pure it seemed to fill the entire sacred space.

The music was a simple, beautiful melody played on the Celtic harp by a local girl from the glen. There were no opera singers, no red carpets, and no flashing cameras. There were only the warm, smiling faces of the community who had held them, worked with them, and prayed for them.

They exchanged their vows in the quiet stillness of the chapel.

"I promise to love you, Sienna," Aiden said, his voice steady and clear, "not for what you have, but for who you are. I promise to tend to your soul, to share your burdens, and to walk with you in faith and peace, through every season of our lives."

"I promise to love you, Aiden," Sienna said, her hand resting in his rough, warm palms. "To share your simple life, to work beside you in the soil, and to find my wealth in your love and our faith. I am yours, before God, for all of my days."

They exchanged the simple wooden rings, their faces illuminated by the warm light of the altar candles.

As Father Tomaso, who had traveled from Italy to perform the ceremony, blessed their union, a deep, profound silence settled over the chapel. It was the silence of a long-awaited peace, the silence of a storm that had finally passed, leaving only the clean, clear light of morning.

The celebration that followed in the communal hall was simple, filled with the sharing of the sourdough bread, the sweet heather honey, and the hearty laughter of friends.

As the sun began to dip behind the snow-capped mountains of Skye, painting the sky in shades of rose and gold, Sienna and Leo walked hand-in-hand along the quiet path that led to their cottage.

The wooden ring on Sienna’s finger caught the last rays of the sun, glowing with a soft, natural light. She looked back at the small stone chapel, then at the man walking beside her.

They had no millions in the bank, no grand estates, and no titles of power. But as they stepped into their small, warm cottage, they knew they had found the only treasure that would never fade. They had found the light of simple things, and they were finally, truly, rich.
