Chapter 7 - Facing the Mirror

The boardroom of the Rossi Shipping Corporation in Florence was a room of cold glass, dark mahogany, and heavy, silent tension.

Julian Cassini sat at the head of the table, flanked by his lawyers and Sienna’s uncle, who looked pale and defeated. The table was covered in financial ledgers, debt foreclosures, and legal contracts.

"You're late, Sienna," Julian said, his voice dripping with smug satisfaction as the double doors of the boardroom opened.

Sienna walked in. She didn't wear the expensive designer suits she used to wear. She wore a simple wool coat, her dark hair pulled back, and her face clean of makeup. She carried no documents, only her mother’s silver rosary in her pocket.

"I’m here, Julian," Sienna said, her voice calm, steady, and entirely devoid of fear.

"Good," Julian said, pushing a document toward her. "Sign the transfer of your family’s trust fund to Cassini Holdings. Once you do, I will release the debt on your uncle’s firm, and we can schedule the wedding for next month. Let's put this foolishness behind us."

Sienna looked at the document, then looked Julian directly in the eyes.

"I’m not signing it, Julian," she said softly.

Julian’s face darkened, his smugness vanishing in an instant. "If you don't sign, your family is ruined. Your uncle will lose everything."

Sienna turned to her uncle, her eyes filled with a deep, loving compassion. "Uncle, I am sorry for the trouble my flight caused. But I cannot save your business by selling my soul. If Julian takes the ships, we will build new ones. If we lose the money, we still have our family. We are Rossis. We survived before we had this corporation, and we will survive after."

She turned back to Julian, her voice ringing with a powerful, unshakable authority. "Take the assets, Julian. Take the ships. Take the bank accounts. I release them all. I have officially resigned from the board, and I have transferred my personal share of the inheritance to a charitable trust for the local orphanage. I have nothing left for you to take."

Julian stood up, his chair scraping violently against the floor. "You're insane! You're giving away millions of euros for what? To be a peasant?"

"To be free, Julian," Sienna said, a soft, beautiful smile touching her lips. "To love and be loved for who I am, not what I own. I wish you find peace, Julian. Because with all your gold, you are the poorest man I have ever known."

Without waiting for a response, Sienna turned and walked out of the boardroom, her steps light and free as she left the cold, glass towers of Florence behind her forever.
