Chapter 7 - The Iron PromiseThe next morning, as the sun began to peek through the pines, Caleb’s truck pulled back into his driveway. He walked into the house, his heart pounding harder than it ever had in combat.

Grace was sitting on the couch, holding Leo, her eyes red and puffy. She looked up, her expression a mix of hope and guarded fear.
Caleb walked over and knelt in front of her, just as he had done in the hospital room. He reached out and gently touched Leo's tiny foot, then looked up at Grace.
"I'm sorry," Caleb said, his voice thick with tears. "I was a coward. I tried to fight this battle with my muscles, but I was fighting the wrong enemy. I need help, Grace. I want to be the husband you deserve, and the father Leo needs. I'm going to the VA today."
Grace let out a ragged breath, leaning forward and resting her forehead against his. "Thank you, Caleb. That's all I ever wanted."
Over the next three months, Caleb kept his promise. He attended intensive therapy sessions, learning to recognize his triggers and manage his anxiety. He began to work out again, but this time, it wasn't to escape.
In the garage, he painted a small sign above his weight bench: The Weight of Home. He looked at the tiny barbell embroidered on Leo's blanket, realizing that true strength wasn't about how much weight he could lift—it was about his ability to carry the emotional weight of his family with grace and resilience.
Slowly, the shadows began to lift. The nightmares became less frequent, replaced by the sweet, mundane sounds of baby giggles and family dinners.
