Nora appealed.
One fraud conviction was overturned because the jury instruction allowed conviction under two theories without clarifying unanimity.
Her murder conviction remained.
Kidnapping remained.
Core fraud remained.
Sentence reduced slightly.

NORA HALE WINS APPEAL.
Lily was eleven.
“She won?”
“One part.”
“Is she getting out?”
“No.”
“Did they say she didn’t kill Mom?”
“No.”
“Then why win?”
“Because courts fix legal mistakes even when other convictions stay.”
She hated that.
I explained:
“We want courts to correct errors for everyone.”
“Even Nora?”
“Especially people we dislike. Otherwise rules become revenge.”
She frowned.
“That sounds like Leah.”
“It is.”
Lily rolled her eyes.

Nora later sent a letter.
No direct contact.
Court screened.
Lily refused to read it.
At sixteen, she changed her mind.
Nora wrote:
I believed Amelia owed me her loyalty because I raised her.
Lily stopped.
“That sounds like ownership.”
“Yes.”
Then:
When she chose Ethan, motherhood, and independence, I treated every choice as betrayal.
Nora admitted hiding Lily.
Admitted financial motive.
Still denied intentionally killing Amelia.
“I gave her medicine. I did not believe it would kill her.”
The jury had rejected that framing based on evidence.
Lily asked:
“Do I have to decide if she’s lying?”
“No.”
“The court already did?”
“The court decided guilt under law. You decide what relationship, if any, you want with her.”
