Chapter 21 - SENTINEL RIDGE WITHOUT DANIEL

Sentinel Ridge grew.

Then matured.

At twenty-one, Leo could attend educational shareholder meetings through trust.

He hated military contracting conversations.

Loved emergency-health communications.

He studied computer engineering partly because of Daniel.

I worried.

“Do you actually like it?”

“Yes.”

“Or do you like Dad?”

“Both can be true.”

Dr. Ellis had apparently trained him well.

He interned somewhere unrelated to Sentinel Ridge.

Good.

At twenty-five, trust terms expanded his control.

Not full immediate liquidation.

He gained direct voting participation.

Independent advisers remained available.

First decision:

Sell part of concentrated Sentinel Ridge position.

Diversify.

Some board members called it disloyal to Daniel.

Leo answered:

“My dad built a company, not a religion.”

I almost applauded.

He retained enough shares to stay connected.

No obligation to preserve a corporate monument forever.

The emergency-phone patent generated money for decades.

Leo donated none of it theatrically in childhood.

As an adult, he funded open safety standards through an anonymous foundation grant.

No “Leo Reed Rescue Phone Initiative.”

No footage of bruises.

He refused trauma branding.

Good.
