Chapter 25 - JACKSON STOPS BEING GUARDIAN

Leo turned thirty.

My formal guardianship had ended at eighteen, obviously.

But emotionally, I had never stopped checking.

Texts after flights.

Weather alerts.

Did you eat?

Who is driving?

He tolerated it until thirty.

Then:

“Uncle Jackson.”

“What?”

“You know I survived college.”

“Yes.”

“I have a mortgage.”

“Terrible decision.”

“I need you to stop tracking my flights.”

I froze.

I still had access because of an old family travel-sharing app.

“Okay.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

I removed myself.

The screen asked:

STOP RECEIVING SAFETY ALERTS?

My thumb hesitated.

Then pressed.

Daniel’s letter returned.

He is not a mission.

Leo looked at me.

“You okay?”

“No.”

He laughed.

“Good.”

May you like

I learned another form of protection.

Not knowing.
