The baseball bat remained in evidence until all appeals ended.
Then the police asked where it should go.
Chad did not want it.
I did not.
Leo was twenty-nine.
“Destroy it.”
No museum.
No family vault.
Department policy allowed disposal.
It was destroyed.
Years earlier, I might have wanted to break it myself.

The glass table was replaced long ago by whoever bought Chad’s house.
The house itself sold after his debts.
A family lived there.
