Chapter 15 - NOAH LEARNS TOO MUCH
Noah overheard me talking to Martin.
“Is Madison taking my money?”
I turned.
“No.”
“Then why did you say my branch?”
Eight-year-olds always enter at the worst sentence.
I explained.
Grandma Evelyn had left family investments.
One part associated with me.
Eventually some could help him.
“Did Madison steal it?”
“No.”
“Uncle Kevin?”
“Adults moved money without asking me correctly.”
“Why?”
“To help Madison.”
He looked at the floor.
“Because she matters more?”
My chest hurt.
“No.”
“But Grandpa laughs when she’s mean.”
“I know.”
“Why?”
“I think Grandpa got used to protecting her feelings.”
“What about mine?”
There are questions a child should never have to ask.
I answered:
May you like
“They matter just as much.”
Then I had to prove it with more than words.
