Chapter 17 - THE EMAIL THAT CHANGED MADISON
Madison received another email.
This one from Riverstone.
Her enrollment remained secure through the semester.
Future tuition responsibility reverted to Kevin pending sponsorship review.
She called me again.
“Am I getting kicked out?”
“No.”
“How do you know?”
“I spoke to them.”
She went quiet.
“You did?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because your education should not become a weapon between adults.”
She cried.
Then:
“Dad says you’re trying to ruin us.”
“I’m stopping payments I didn’t approve.”
“He says same thing.”
“That’s not the same thing.”
“Why?”
“Because your dad deciding I would eventually say yes is not the same as me saying yes.”
Long pause.
“Grandpa says family doesn’t need paperwork.”
I almost laughed.
“Family needs consent even more.”
