Chapter 21 - WHAT I DID TO MADISON

I asked Madison to meet with a therapist present.
Not to discuss trust money.
The bucket.
She sat across from me with her arms folded.
“I’m sorry I dumped mud on you.”
She stared.
“You were mad.”
“Yes.”
“I deserved it.”
“No.”
That surprised her.
“You humiliated Noah.”
“Yes.”
“You needed consequences.”
She nodded.
“But I was the adult. Dumping mud on you because you dumped it on him was retaliation.”
She looked suspicious.
“Are you saying I’m not in trouble?”
“No.”
She almost smiled.
“What’s my consequence?”
“That is between you and your father.”
Then:
“My consequence is I apologize for what I did.”
Madison’s eyes filled.
“Did Noah forgive me?”
“Ask Noah when he’s ready.”
She nodded.
