Chapter 30 - The TrialSix months later, the New York State Supreme Court was packed to capacity for the trial of Vanessa Vance.

Elena sat in the front row, wearing a sharp, tailored white suit, flanked by her grandfather and Julian. Across the room, Vanessa sat at the defense table, looking frail, defeated, and abandoned by all her wealthy friends.

The prosecutor presented the undeniable evidence: the audio recordings from the baby monitor, the financial paper trail of stolen foundation funds, and the forensic evidence from the nursery fire.

The judge slammed his gavel down. "Vanessa Vance, for attempted murder, arson, grand larceny, and child endangerment, you are hereby sentenced to twenty-eight years in a state penitentiary without the possibility of parole."

Vanessa sobbed loudly as she was led away in chains. She looked back at Elena one last time, but Elena didn't look down. She stood tall, her head held high. Justice was finally served.
