Chapter 21 - THE HOUSE WITHOUT MARLENE

I changed less than people expected.
No fortress.
No move.
Lily wanted to stay in our house.
Her room.
School.
Treehouse.
The study remained difficult.
She avoided it.
I worked from the kitchen for six months.
Then asked:
“Want to change the room?”
She said:
“Purple.”
We painted one wall purple.
Removed the heavy desk.
Turned half into homework and art space.
No ceremony.
The rug where Mom pinned her went to a cleaning service?
I almost threw it away.
Lily said:
“My rug.”
We cleaned it.
Kept it.
May you like
Her choice.
Objects do not belong to trauma forever.
