Chapter 24 - LILY READS THE CASE

At fourteen, Lily asked for the records.

Not all.

The therapist helped.

We created a timeline.

Claire dies.

Marlene becomes liaison.

Conflicts emerge.

Letters hidden.

Box accessed.

Credibility file.

Study incident.

Police.

Audit.

Trial.

No sensational photos.

Lily read my witness statement.

“You slapped her.”

“Yes.”

“I remember.”

“How?”

“You were huge.”

I laughed.

“I was thirty-two.”

“Same.”

Cruel child.

Then:

“Was I really lying a lot?”

“No.”

“Never?”

“You were seven? Six. Of course you lied sometimes.”

“What?”

“You once told me you brushed your teeth while the toothbrush was dry.”

She laughed.

“Grandma used normal kid lying to say I lied about big thing.”

“Yes.”

“That’s messed up.”

May you like

“Yes.”

Simple.
