Chapter 3 - FATHER'S LAST GAME

The weight of the matte-black steel USB drive felt cold against Sophia’s palm, a stark contrast to the sterile warmth of the private clinic room. With Mr. Vance standing guard by the door, she flipped open the secure laptop provided by her father's security detail and inserted the drive. The screen went dark for a fraction of a second before a proprietary decryption interface bypassed the system's standard firewall.
A video file initialized. The screen flickered, and the commanding, unyielding visage of Arthur Carter filled the display. He was sitting in his private mahogany-lined study, dressed in his favorite charcoal suit. His face bore the familiar, razor-sharp expression that had terrified international logistics competitors for forty years, but his eyes softened as he looked directly into the camera lens.
"Sophia, my sweet girl," Arthur’s voice resonated from the laptop speakers, carrying a haunting, echoey depth. "If you are watching this broadcast, it means the worst has come to pass. The smiling viper you brought into our home—the man you chose to marry despite my warnings—has finally struck. I knew from the very moment Ryan Vance set foot in our estate that he was a predator hunting for a shortcut to absolute wealth. He didn't see a brilliant woman; he saw a treasury to be plundered."
Sophia's breath caught violently in her throat, a lone tear slicing through the dried salt on her cheek. She pressed her hand firmly against her stomach, drawing strength from the steady, quiet heartbeat of her child.
"I wanted to protect your heart from the pain of his betrayal, but as a father, I had to ensure your survival first," Arthur continued, leaning closer to the camera, his voice hardening into pure iron. "You always believed you were slated to inherit the primary shipping lines and the domestic real estate branches of the Carter Corporation. But the empire Ryan thinks he is about to inherit is nothing more than an elaborate, hollow paper shell."
The video screen split into two distinct windows. The left side displayed the familiar, public corporate organizational charts of the Carter Corporation. The right side exploded into a massive, hidden financial grid containing cryptographic keys, offshore routing numbers, and holding company structures based out of Singapore and the Cayman Islands.

"Over the last five years of my life, as my health began to fail, I systematically and quietly migrated every true asset, every deep-water shipping berth, and every single dollar of our liquid capital out of the domestic corporation. I transferred them into a private, untraceable investment fund called Aegis Capital. Ryan spent years plotting to take your crown, Sophia. But as we speak, he is holding the keys to a kingdom of debt. The main corporate accounts are completely dry. The legacy company is on the verge of bankruptcy. He inherits absolutely nothing. Now, my girl, take the weapon I left you, step out of the shadows, and destroy them."
The screen abruptly went black. Sophia sat in absolute silence, her mind processing the brilliant, defensive genius of her father. Ryan had thrown her into the freezing depths of the Atlantic Ocean for a multi-billion-dollar fortune that simply did not exist.
