CHAPTER 73 — THE STEWARD INSIDE SARAH

Mason aimed at Sarah.
Claire pushed his weapon down.
“Sarah can still hear us.”
Silas tilted her head.
“Can she?”
Lily approached before Claire could stop her.
“Sarah promised to come back.”
For a moment, Sarah’s eyes filled with tears.
Then Silas regained control.
“The child creates interference.”
Rose and Iris moved to either side of Sarah.
They placed their hands against her temples.
Sarah screamed.
Lights throughout the lighthouse exploded.
All three sisters collapsed.
When Sarah opened her eyes again, her own voice returned.
“He entered when the Blackwater core broke.”
“Can you force him out?” Claire asked.
“Only temporarily.”
“Where is Miriam?”
Sarah pointed toward the sea.
“She escaped in a second boat. She is taking the registry to Washington.”
Ward contacted the Coast Guard.
No vessel matching the description appeared on radar.
Sarah grabbed Claire’s arm.
“Miriam knows about the Council.”
“What Council?”
“The families who funded Gray Tide.”
Mason opened the Washington files.
Names had been removed, but seven symbols remained.
A crown.
A scale.
A sword.
An eye.
A key.
A flame.
A wave.
Margaret recognized the wave.
“The Vane family.”
Sarah nodded.
“Each symbol represents a bloodline controlling part of the program.”
Claire looked at the Vane registry.
“Why did Miriam need this if the Council already exists?”
“To decide which family leads Phase Two.”
Olivia’s baby kicked violently when the crown symbol appeared.
Rebecca noticed.
“The Anchor recognizes it.”
Sarah turned toward Olivia.
“Your child’s father belongs to the Crown line.”
Olivia looked at Daniel.
Daniel shook his head.
“I’m not the father.”
The room became silent.
Claire remembered Daniel protecting Olivia and pretending to threaten her in the hospital.
“Who is?”
Olivia looked away.
“I don’t know.”
Sarah’s eyes changed again.
Silas spoke through her.
“I do.”
He looked toward Mason.
“The child belongs to your brother.”
Mason stared at Jonah.
Jonah’s face turned pale.
“I have never met Olivia.”
May you like
Silas smiled.
“Not this version of you.”
