CHAPTER 14 — The Boardroom

Three days later.
The boardroom at Ashford Holdings was packed with directors, attorneys, auditors, and federal investigators.
Richard entered under escort.
He still carried himself with confidence.
"I built this company," he declared.
"No," Daniel replied.
"You only hid inside it."
One by one, Michael presented encrypted financial records, witness statements, and Edward's recorded testimony.
Every transaction Richard had hidden over three decades appeared on the screen.
The room fell silent.
Then came the final surprise.
The company's chief legal counsel stood up.
"I have one more document."
He placed a sealed letter on the table.
Edward Ashford's final instruction.
It had been entrusted to the law firm with orders to open it only after sufficient evidence confirmed the conspiracy.
Daniel broke the seal.
Inside, Edward had written:
"Never confuse ownership with leadership."
"A company survives because people choose integrity, not inheritance."
The board unanimously voted to remove Richard from every position.
Federal agents stepped forward.
Richard looked at Daniel one last time.
"You think this is victory?"
Daniel answered quietly.
"No."
"I think it's accountability."
Richard lowered his head as he was led away.
