Chapter 11 - THE COLD WATERThe cold water did not begin as ice baths.

Mark said warm water “rewarded avoidance” because Sophie demanded exact temperatures.
So he stopped letting her choose.
He used whatever came from the faucet after a brief warm-up.
Sometimes lukewarm.
Sometimes cool.
Then once, after Sophie climbed out early, he restarted the timer and refilled with cooler water.

Sophie remembered:

She shook so hard afterward that Mark wrapped her in two towels.
