Chapter 14 - SOPHIE’S PEDIATRICIANDr. Melissa Grant had seen Sophie four months earlier for bath anxiety.

Her note became important.

Child fearful after slip/fall. Recommend gradual, non-forced reintroduction. Offer occupational therapy referral if persistent. Avoid restraint or punitive bathing practices.

Mark had attended that appointment.

I had forgotten because I was at work and joined by phone for ten minutes.

Dr. Grant remembered Mark asking:

“What if she refuses indefinitely?”

Dr. Grant answered:

“Then we treat the anxiety. We don’t overpower a five-year-old.”

Mark knew.

He later claimed the online exposure approach was simply his version of gradual reintroduction.

But drugging a child and resetting timers after escape was not what the pediatrician meant.
