Chapter 24 - BATHING AGAINFor weeks Sophie refused the bathtub entirely.

We did sponge baths.

Hair in the sink.

No pressure.

Then occupational therapist Jenna Brooks started working with her.

First:

Empty bathroom.

Play with toys.

No water.

Then faucet for five seconds.

Then hands under water.

Then feet in an empty tub.

Sophie controlled stop.

Every time.

No timer she could not cancel.

Eventually she asked for a timer herself.

“Two minutes.”

Jenna said:

“Who can stop it?”

“Me.”

“Good.”

Sophie sat in warm water for forty-three seconds.

Then climbed out.

Nobody restarted anything.

That was therapy.
