Chapter 19 - THE NIGHT I SAW HIMThe evening I called police was supposed to be a twenty-minute “full completion” session.

Mark’s notes showed:

Goal: full bath + rinse without escape.

He gave Sophie a measured but medically inappropriate amount of diphenhydramine.

Then set the timer.

She refused the cup at first.

That was what I saw.

He had already given part earlier.

The paper cup contained the remainder diluted with water.

When he said:

“We’re nearly finished,”

he meant the timed exposure sequence.

Not some darker hidden act.

I should have felt relieved.

Part of me did.

Then I realized how distorted relief can become.

My child had not been sexually abused.
