Chapter 30 - The Vanguard Threat|
Arriving at the towering, sleek glass skyscraper that proudly housed my company's global headquarters, I felt a familiar, powerful surge of adrenaline coursing through my veins. The expansive marble lobby was a bustling hive of corporate activity, but the busy crowd parted slightly as I walked confidently through, a silent testament to the immense respect and authority I had carefully earned over the years. I stepped into the private executive elevator, calmly watching the vast city skyline shrink below me as I ascended rapidly to the top floor.
Marcus was already anxiously waiting in the main conference room, completely surrounded by towering stacks of printed financial reports and three of our absolute top corporate attorneys. The atmosphere in the room was thick with palpable tension.
"Give me the absolute bottom line," I demanded sharply, tossing my heavy leather briefcase onto the polished mahogany table and confidently taking my seat at the head of the room.
"Vanguard Holdings aggressively acquired a twenty percent stake through a complex network of shadow corporations," Marcus explained quickly, pulling up a highly complex web of international transactions on the massive digital main screen. "They are actively leveraging an obscure legal loophole in the subsidiary's original founding documents to forcefully initiate an emergency shareholder vote."
"Who exactly is running Vanguard these days?" I asked, leaning forward intensely and steepling my fingers together.
"A ruthless man named Silas Thorne," one of the sharpest lawyers, a brilliant woman named Elena, chimed in immediately. "He's highly aggressive, incredibly well-funded, and he absolutely doesn't care about the strict ethical tech initiatives we've implemented. He just wants the raw data processing algorithms."
"If he gets those powerful algorithms, he could easily repurpose them for invasive global surveillance," I stated, my blood running noticeably cold at the horrifying thought. "That goes entirely against the fundamental core mission of this entire company. We built this immense technology to fiercely protect people, not to mindlessly exploit them."

"He's formally requested a face-to-face meeting, Boss," Marcus said softly, his eyes locked on mine with a look of deep concern.
"Set it up immediately," I ordered without a second of hesitation, my eyes locked securely on the glowing screen. "If Silas Thorne truly wants a brutal war over this company, he's absolutely going to get one. I didn't survive the darkest fires of my past just to surrender my bright future to a greedy corporate vulture."
