Chapter 46 - A Quiet Morning|

It was another quiet, incredibly warm Sunday morning, remarkably similar to the beautiful, peaceful days of the past, yet profoundly, deeply different. I sat comfortably in the exact same sturdy wicker chair on the expansive wooden deck of our riverfront home, tightly wrapped in a soft blanket, holding a steaming mug of expensive herbal tea. The bright sun was just slowly beginning to gently rise over the endless river, casting a spectacular, breathtaking blanket of fiery orange and soft pink across the vast horizon.
Inside the quiet house, I could hear the familiar, chaotic sounds of a completely normal, wildly happy morning. However, it wasn't just a young boy loudly arguing with a dog anymore. It was Leo, now a highly successful, brilliant executive director, warmly laughing with his beautiful young fiancée, Maya, as they clumsily attempted to cook a massive Sunday breakfast.
"Mom! Maya completely burned the expensive bacon again!" Leo yelled loudly through the open screen door, his deep voice heavily cracking with genuine, uncontrollable laughter.
"I absolutely did not!" Maya shouted playfully in aggressive defense, loudly smacking him gently with a soft dish towel. "The stupid stove is completely rigged!"
"You two completely fight your own culinary battles!" I yelled back warmly, a deep, resonant laugh bubbling up entirely from my chest. "I am strictly retired from active kitchen duty!"

I took a slow, highly satisfying sip of my warm tea, turning my calm gaze back out toward the magnificent, endless river. I had officially, fully retired from the heavy, stressful CEO position precisely six months ago, proudly handing the massive corporate reins securely over to Marcus, while Leo flawlessly took complete, absolute control of the entire global charity foundation.
The heavy, aggressive burdens of absolute leadership were finally, completely lifted from my tired shoulders. I had spent countless, exhausting decades fiercely guarding the massive, impenetrable fortress I had heavily built, forcefully fighting back the dark, endless corporate shadows and ruthlessly protecting my brilliant son. Now, that same son was the fierce, powerful guardian of the unshakeable light, and I was finally allowed to simply, completely rest.
