Chapter 9 - The Boardroom Reign

The glass doors of Vale-Tech International stood towering and immaculate, reflecting the busy downtown skyline. For years, Dominic had walked through these doors as a king, treating the company as his personal treasury to fund his lavish, abusive lifestyle. Today, the building belonged to me.
I walked into the main lobby wearing a sharp, tailored navy suit. The click of my heels against the polished marble floor echoed with absolute authority.
"Good morning, Ms. Vance," the head of security said, rushing over to swipe his badge at the executive elevator. "The board of directors is already assembled in the top-floor conference room."
"Thank you, David," I replied smoothly, stepping into the elevator.
When the silver doors slid open, I walked directly into the boardroom. Twelve older men and women, the remnants of Dominic’s hand-picked corporate enablers, sat around the long mahogany table. They fell dead silent as I took my place at the head of the table.
"Let us not waste any time," I began, opening my leather portfolio and sliding a stack of printed documents down the center of the table. "You have all reviewed the bankruptcy restructuring decree. Vale-Tech is no longer a shield for embezzlement. It is now a fully transparent, heavily audited corporation under my sole control."
A senior vice president cleared his throat nervously.
"Ms. Vance, with all due respect, your background is not in international tech logistics. The board feels a transition period with an interim CEO might—"
"I am going to stop you right there, Richard," I said, my voice dropping to a calm, freezing register. "Dominic’s background was supposedly in tech logistics, and he utilized that expertise to defraud investors and launder money. I spent the last three years meticulously dismantling his illegal network piece by piece. If I can unravel a global fraud syndicate from my kitchen table, I can certainly read a quarterly profit report."
Richard swallowed hard, shrinking back into his leather chair.
"Any executive sitting at this table who feels uncomfortable with my leadership or the new transparency protocols is welcome to submit their resignation by noon," I continued, making direct eye contact with every single person in the room. "Your severance packages will be generous, but your departure will be final."

Nobody moved. Nobody spoke.
"Excellent," I smiled, opening the first folder. "Now, let’s review the new budget allocations for ethical sourcing."
