Chapter 40 - The Rescue Flight|
The massive, deafening roar of the sleek corporate helicopter completely drowned out the loud, rushing wind as it descended rapidly onto the dusty field safely behind the rural clinic. I had aggressively ordered the highly experienced pilot to completely push the powerful engines to their absolute maximum limit, and he had miraculously arrived in under thirty tense minutes.
The dedicated paramedics rushed the fragile young boy on a portable stretcher toward the waiting aircraft. Dr. Amina and a highly trained trauma nurse climbed quickly into the cramped back seat, gently securing the complex IV lines and vital portable monitors.
"Mom, can I please go with them?" Leo yelled loudly over the massive engine noise, his eyes completely wide with intense, desperate concern. "I strictly read the complex manual for that specific portable defibrillator last night! I actually know how to quickly troubleshoot it if the battery fails!"
I hesitated for a tiny fraction of a second. It was incredibly dangerous, but the fierce, determined look in his young eyes was absolutely undeniable. He genuinely wanted to help save a life.
"Go!" I yelled back firmly, forcefully pushing him gently toward the open helicopter door. "Stay completely out of Dr. Amina's way, but fiercely help her if she explicitly asks! I will meet you at the main hospital!"

Leo nodded fiercely, quickly scrambling into the noisy aircraft and immediately securing his safety harness. The heavy doors slammed forcefully shut, and the powerful helicopter rapidly lifted off, quickly disappearing into the bright, endless African sky.
I stood completely alone on the dusty tarmac, my heart pounding aggressively against my ribs. I had built a massive, powerful empire of technology and immense wealth, but in this specific, terrifying moment, all that truly mattered was the fragile beating heart of a small child and the immense, incredible bravery of my own teenage son. I quickly ran toward the waiting utility jeep; I had a long, deeply stressful drive to the capital city ahead of me.
