Chapter 53 - The Tense Waiting|

With the massive, critical phase of the deep emergency successfully handled, I finally returned to the quiet, peaceful sanctuary of the riverfront estate just as the bright morning sun began to softly rise. Maya was entirely awake, sitting anxiously at the large kitchen island, aggressively nursing a cold cup of tea and constantly refreshing the global news feeds on her digital tablet.

"Is he absolutely, perfectly okay?" Maya asked instantly, aggressively standing up the absolute second I walked wearily through the heavy wooden door.

"He is completely, undeniably brilliant," I answered with a massive, totally exhausted smile, sinking heavily onto a tall barstool. "He forcefully bypassed a massive satellite failure and successfully delivered thousands of pounds of vital medical supplies. He essentially saved the entire region."

Maya let out a huge, shuddering breath, completely burying her face in her small hands as a profound wave of immense, heavy relief visibly washed over her.

"I was so incredibly terrified," she whispered softly, wiping a single, stray tear from her cheek. "I was watching the horrific, massive destruction on the live news, heavily knowing he was intensely responsible for fixing something so impossibly huge."

"He fiercely thrives under that massive pressure, Maya," I reassured her gently, reaching over to softly pat her trembling arm. "He possesses an incredibly rare, beautiful combination of a fiercely analytical mind and a deeply, profoundly compassionate heart."

"When is he actually coming home?" she asked eagerly, looking hopefully toward the quiet driveway.

"Marcus strictly ordered him to take a mandatory, highly enforced sleep break in the executive suites at the command center," I laughed softly, feeling the deep, heavy exhaustion finally settling into my own tired bones. "He will be safely back here by this afternoon, perfectly ready to aggressively resume discussing table linens and massive floral arrangements."

"I absolutely do not care about the stupid table linens anymore," Maya smiled brightly, her dark eyes shining with immense, pure love. "I just deeply, fiercely want my amazing, brilliant hero to safely come home to me."
